The idea for the "host family" approach to offering music classes was born in conversation with parents, and other music teachers, concerning how make young children as comfortable as possible as they learned. Once this idea was hit upon it became clear that there are many advantages to offering classes for young children in a home environment.  Some of these advantages are:

A home is a more natural and comfortable
learning environment for the young child
than a studio or classroom and the child is
more comfortable.  Reseach has demonstrated
physcological comfort to be an important
factor in learning.
*************
Young children who may need a few minutes
apart from the class are easily accomodated.
************
Carefully scheduled classes offer the opportunity
to extend the class time so that the children
and their parents can get to know each other.
*************
The music "play date" can naturally expand
and become a play date wherein the students
develop real relationships with their peers
and make music friendships. This also contributes
to the child's sense that music class is
fun and desirable.
************
Having "musician" friends from a young age
increases the chances that the child will
continue to have music in her or his life.
************
Parents can develop friendships with other
like-minded parents without having to schedule
additional "play dates" for their children.

In addition, teaching classes in children's homes
helps to keep the cost low enough that all
parents can afford to enroll their children.
